From the archives: Writing with I CAN

Hello!

It's been a little while, how are you? Please feel free to drop me a comment, I would really love to know how things are with you! I hope you're enjoying these rare sunny autumnal days we've been having in the UK.

We are back at uni now, almost into week 3 of the term - how did that happen already?! It's great to be back studying, and there's lots of exciting things happening so keep an eye out on my social media for lots of lovely news!

Anyway, that's enough enough catching up for now! Back to the matter in hand...

In late 2017, I was delighted to be asked to work with I CAN, a UK children's communication charity! In the piece, I talk about the role I CAN has played in my SLT-life, and the wonderful experiences they have given me so far, including my placement delivering the Early Talk Boost, and my thoughts on the current provision of Speech Language and Communication support and services.

I CAN write on their website: "I CAN's mission is that no child should be left out or left behind because of a difficulty speaking or understanding". The charity provides resources, enquiry services, assessment services, practitioner training, and even their own specialist schools for children and young people who have communication difficulties and additional needs! They are wonderful, and I would highly recommend check them out.

I was so excited to write a piece for their blog about my experiences as a student Speech and Language Therapist at De Montfort University. It was a real pleasure to work with I CAN, and I am hugely grateful for all their continued support.

You can read my post here: I CAN - The Journey of an SLT Student. I would love to know your thoughts!

At DMU, we are incredibly lucky to be trained to deliver ICAN's Early Talk boost programme as part of our placement training. In early 2017 we launched the DMU SALT Centre, and our partnership with I CAN was recorded as a blog too! You can read this here.

There is also a fab blog post on the DMU website about the DMU SALT Centre, which you can read here if you're interested in learning a bit more about our work so far!

Thank you so much for reading this post, and for popping along to I CAN's blog to read my piece: I CAN - The Journey of an SLT Student, it really does mean a lot to me. I hope you found the links interesting!

I hope to see you all again soon, in the meantime you can keep in touch via twitter at SpeechieAtDMU, on my LinkedIn profile: Charlotte Thompson and please do feel free to ping me an email at speechieatdmu@gmail.com anytime!.
